History of
the Parish :
Ever since 1971, when the Carmelite Sisters
(CMC) of Changanacherry Province in Kerala
opened their first chool in Joda, it was a
sub-station of Barbil and was looked after
from Barbil as there were Catholics in the
mines of Joda. In 1979, the church was built
and Fr. Zacharias Kunnamkattuthara was
appointed First Parish Priest. In 1984, the
boys’ hostel was started. On the following
year Fr. George Rathappilly replaced Fr.
Zacharias as Parish Priest. On 30th June,
1986, when the CMC Sisters left the English
Medium School, the same was taken up by the
SABS Sisters. In 1992, Fr George
Mattathilany who was associate Priest in
Joda relieved Fr. George Rathappily and
assumed charge as Parish Priest. In 1994 Fr.
Daniel Kishore took charge of the parish
Priest and continued utill 1999 when Fr.
Rayappan was appointed as the parish Priest.
Fr. Rayappan was replaced by Fr. Antony in
2001, when he was transferred from there Fr.
Varghes Pudumattam took charge of the Parish
as the Parish Priest in 2002 and he
continues.
